About Us

What is Ka Huna massage?

Ka Huna is an ancient practice originating in the South Pacific. For native Polynesians, it was a rite of passage during ceremonies, often given to family members as a form of healing and love. Records show it was used to soothe the aching bodies of the men who traversed the waves in wooden boats.
Like the waves, the massage movements are flowing, strong and graceful. The practitioner uses hands, forearms, body weight and gravity to deliver soft and deep tissue massage in gliding motions.
Using dynamic breathwork, dance-like intuitive movements, music, oils, a warm room and hot towels, this unique ritualistic treatment relaxes and rebalances the body and mind.
The 7 Spiritual Principles of Ka Huna are embodied in the practice. We all have a life force that needs nurturing and reconnecting from time to time. Ka Huna does this. Try the principles in your daily life. We're sure you'll recognise the concepts and agree we could all do with some more Ka Huna.

What is Lomi Lomi massage?

Lomi Lomi is similar in its flow to Ka Huna but gentler. It involves slower, continuous movements using hands and fingers to create deep relaxation. Its rhythmic motions are soothing and grounding.
Combining gentle breathwork, intuitive movement, music, oils, a warm room, and hot towels make this a perfect way to destress and reconnect.

Treatments

We provide several massage styles so you can find one you love. Ka Huna massage is our signature style which uses forearms, hands and gentle limb rotations to relax, release and resolve any tension. This beautifully flowing oil massage style massages both sides of your body at once, creating a state of deep relaxation and release in your body, mind and spirit. It's an opportunity to reset.
Lomi Lomi uses the hands in a rhythmic flowing style to relax and recharge. It is a more straightforward, less energetic style that is relaxing and nourishing for your body, mind and soul.
Energy massage uses a very light, gentle touch. It is calming and soothing. It can be given as a stand-alone treatment and is perfect for clients who are not comfortable with the pressure of a regular massage. It can be combined with other massage styles.
Bone and joint massage is another gentle massage style with a focus on, you guessed it, bones and joints. This is soothing, almost hypnotic. It works as a standalone therapeutic massage or can be combined with another.
Clothed massage is the unique option to experience Ka Huna fully clothed. Our centre invented this to help colleagues at a conference when undressing wasn't an option. The practitioner wears a smooth garment and moves over the client's body using the Ka Huna flow.

FAQs

Warm organic coconut oil.

In traditional Swedish or remedial massage sequences, the back is exposed, worked on, and then covered before moving to the next body part. Usually, the practitioner has a predetermined routine.

With Hawaiian massage, no two treatments are the same. The body is worked on in long, flowing strokes, working sometimes over and under the body at the same time. The practitioner is also completely attuned and present to the client and the intention of the massage. The rituals of music, meditations and rhythm all provide a healing connection, like no other massage.

Yes, but probably in a way you’re not used to if your regular massage is a Thai or Chinese deep tissue. The use of hands, elbows and forearms with bodyweight means that the trigger points and knots will melt away. When the body (the nervous system) is deep into its most relaxed state, incredible healing happens. You’ll feel relaxed, relieved and flexible.

You can wear or not wear, whatever you are comfortable with. The practice uses a sarong carefully positioned and tucked to maintain modesty throughout. The traditional nakedness is so flowing movements can be uninterrupted from head to toe. However, your practitioner can easily move over underwear. Bear in mind, that it may get oily.

Yes, unless you ask, otherwise. Your practitioner- always asks for your preferences before starting the massage. The head massage is one of the best bits so we advise bringing a hair tie, a hat or simply head home for a shower afterwards.

You can have something light but we recommend at least two hours before kahuna movements cradle your body and work on your stomach so eating heavily beforehand would make it uncomfortable.
